WHO WE ARE
At Curls & Caregivers, we celebrate the beauty, strength, and history of every curl.
We partner with agencies, schools, and community organizations to deliver hands-on, culturally relevant hair care education that uplifts BIPOC youth — especially those in foster care, group homes, and underserved communities.
Our mission is simple but powerful:
Build confidence. Preserve culture. Pass on skills that last a lifetime.
Why This Matters
For Black and textured hair, care is more than grooming — it’s identity, heritage, and self-love.
When youth in care don’t receive culturally appropriate hair care:
-
They feel disconnected from their identity.
-
Confidence and self-esteem decline.
-
Hair damage and neglect can lead to shame or bullying.
-
Life skills and income opportunities are lost.
-
They may feel isolated in placements.
-
Misinformation can cause self-rejection.
-
They miss bonding moments with caregivers.
-
Personal wellness habits are neglected long-term.
We change that. Our programs create safe, supportive spaces where youth and caregivers learn skills, share stories, and embrace the beauty of Black hair — all while gaining tools for economic independence and personal growth.
Studies show that foster youth frequently struggle with shifting cultural identity, impacting self-esteem and psychological wellbeing.
Strong cultural identity builds resilience, academic success,
and better emotional health.
